A Father's Radical Truth About What Actually Matters
Debunking myths through brutal honesty, storytelling, and radical transparency. You must unlearn what you have learned.
is BullShit is about myth — identifying, defining, and debunking myths. We use storytelling and metaphors to explain the current situation, define the myths, and recommend a way forward. Metaphors help individuals make sense of the unknown through analogy, relating the new to what you already know.
is BullShit is a dialectic endeavor to seek and tell the truth through brutal honesty and radical transparency. Similar to the "For Dummies" series, each book discusses a specific topic and provides information — but we're focused on debunking, refuting, and dispelling myths through stories and empirical data.
The is BullShit book series demystifies why social norms, standard ways of doing things, and conventional life advice is wrong in many cases. In today's world of social media, impulsiveness, pleasure seeking, and instant gratification, logic isn't what matters most — passion and emotion are. You have to appeal to people's emotions, feelings, and beliefs.
is BullShit is dedicated to paying it forward. 23% of all profits are donated to the Ma Pesch Foundation, which provides continuing education scholarships to high school seniors seeking STEM degrees.
The Book Is About to Change
For more than 585 years, the basic book hasn’t really changed. We’ve moved from the printing press to paperback, Kindle and audiobooks—but the book is still essentially a static object.
What happens when a book becomes interactive, conversational and alive?
Life Advice is Bullshit is becoming an experiment in the future of publishing through the Sidekick Platform—bringing reading, listening, video, podcasts, AI-powered questions and interaction with the author together in one experience.
For readers, it’s a new way to discover and engage with ideas. For authors, it’s a new way to understand, connect with and continuously create for their audience.
The book isn’t dead. It’s finally evolving.
The book can be read using the Sidekick smart phone mobile app (Apple, Google) or on a web browser.
“Stupidity” poses a bigger threat than AI, CEO of Italian defense giant Leonardo says. — CNBC
“We are selling Starbucks to each other”. This was my epiphany moment in Plano, TX in early 2000. It is not just that the financial system in the US is built on citizens selling services to each other. The economy, institutions, culture, societal norms, political systems, businesses, and even self-help are built on bullshit. What if most of what we learn, and think we know with conviction, needs to be unlearned? It was an “everything is bullshit” moment.
It was right before the dot com crash in 2001. My ominous intuition proved, for once, prophetic. Of course, I did nothing about it. Years went by and I did nothing with my idea. I always came back to it. After divorcing, a career, raising two boys, and traveling the world, more ideas came about. Leadership, therapy, career advice, and financial advice are all permeated with myths and alternative facts.
It was until I left, sorta was fired, from my job in early 2026. A high tech career is not like a fine wine, it ages poorly. What a liberating experience, and an opportune time to go all in on is bullshit. The internet and social media have decayed our sense of purpose, divided us, disconnected us, proliferated conspiracy theories, and spread disinformation and misinformation. Society is about to become a whole lot dumber thanks to AI. Social media was the opening act, AI will ensconce you in your bubble of beliefs and opinions.
The Life Advice is Bullshit book started as a short graduation letter. I wanted to hand you a few pages of ‘dad wisdom’ before my two sons headed into the great wide open. Instead, it turned into a book. I realized almost everything I’d been told about life was either the lowest common denominator, outdated, or straight-up bullshit. The book is a copious college send off, and a literary legacy for me — simultaneously altruistic and selfish, like most things. It made sense to use the word shit in the book series title as shit was one of my mom’s favorite words.
In retrospect, is bullshit was too soon in 2000. Shit happens for a reason. It was before the tea party, targeted marketing, proliferation of conspiracy theories, and the MAGA movement. Today, people are seeking a new way forward. A breaking down of the social constructs and contracts that have failed them. Calling bullshit on the systems, dogmas, and sermons that have failed them. Let’s not pick up pitch forks, but dislodge the cerebral programming that spreads misconceptions and misinformation, and sows the seeds of discontentment. Take my hand and come with me on a journey of debunking and refuting.
